Baird Cattle Co Mini Herefords
A small farm raising small cattle and small humans.
Our Story
We are the Baird’s! We both grew up on our family farms. Jared’s family grew corn and soybeans as well as produce and specialty crops. They also had a variety of livestock around including cattle, hogs, and goats. Kayla’s family focused on corn, soybeans, and wheat after phasing out of hog production when she was young. After Kayla graduated from Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine and starting practice in Indiana, we felt like we were in a place to make that dream a reality. We started our cattle herd with Gelbvieh cross commercial cattle in 2022. In 2023, we had the opportunity to shrink our herd (in stature!) by purchasing a registered bred miniature Hereford heifer and a cow calf pair. This set the foundation for what our mini herd is today.

Our Values
Ingenuity
We are not here to follow the status quo, but to raise cattle how we feel is best for our herd and our land.
Collaboration
Since we started our herd from scratch on rented land and rented equipment, it has taken a village for our herd to be what it is today.
Stewardship
We believe in caring for the land we have been entrusted with to ensure it can be used to develop healthy cattle and crops for years to come.
Faith
All of our blessings have not been earned but given to us from God, and we strive to share those blessings with those around us.
Family
We are raising a herd with our children and it’s important that we pass along a herd that sets them up for success should they choose to keep raising cattle.
Farming
Even though we both have “off the farm” jobs, our passion is agriculture both at home and at work.
